The Replacement for Skype Business

What is Microsoft Teams?

In 2017, Microsoft announced that its new Microsoft Teams application would eventually replace Skype for Business as the central communication and collaboration tool for Office 365 organizations. Since then, Microsoft has been reaching the parity of features and functions between both platforms, thus achieving a progressive migration of users.

Microsoft recently announced that Skype for Business will be officially withdrawn on July 31, 2021 and, although existing users will be able to continue using the platform in a normal way, new Office 365 users will be directly incorporated into Teams. Both applications serve to optimize communication within companies, but Microsoft has been paying full attention to Teams, being the focus of all the company’s new technological developments.

What’s new in Microsoft Teams?

The Microsoft Teams communication solution expands and enhances the qualities of Skype for Business, integrating new and better communication capabilities that allow companies to organize and collaborate optimally with the use of Artificial Intelligence, machine learning, advanced analytics, cognitive and collaborative services . Teams is emerging as a vital application for an organization that seeks to establish efficient communication among all its employees. Some of these new features are:

  • Meetings of up to 250 participants.
  • Recording meetings in the cloud.
  • Private group chats
  • Mentions to get a user’s attention.
  • Data loss prevention.
  • Agility in navigation thanks to commands.
  • Easy access to other applications, documents and websites that are used frequently.
  • Ability to chat with other companies and contacts outside the work team.

The company continues to work on continuing to integrate other functions into Teams that drive innovation, increase employee productivity and improve collaboration within work teams. This is why today thousands of organizations have already migrated from Skype for Business to Microsoft Teams, and many others are in the process of implementing it.
